A downloadable game for Windows

Unfortunately, the city is infested with gremlins.  Fortunately, you are a gremlin hunter!  Throw nuts at the gremlins to lure them into your gremlin trap.  But don't let them touch you, or you'll be gremlinized!

This game was created as my final "personal project" for a Unity Create with Code Live class.  (More information in the in-game Author's Notes.)

Please note: If you're seeing this page on Thursday May 7, you probably want to wait till tomorrow to download the game (or at least come back again tomorrow to download a better version).  There's a deadline to submit my personal project to the Create with Code page, and with all the computer problems I've been having lately, I figured I'd submit it was soon as I had a working and playable game, even if there's still a lot of polishing left to do, just in case something went wrong and I was unable to submit it closer to the deadline.  But I'm going to keep working on it a bit (adding sound effects, music, a more interesting environment), and there should be a better version up by midnight (or at least by early Friday morning).

UPDATE: Okay, it took me a bit longer than I anticipated to finish what I'd been planning to do to the game, but I've now uploaded an improved (though still rather slapdash) version, Alpha 2.  I've left the Alpha 1 version available as well in case anyone wants to see the simpler version without the relatively detailed environment of Alpha 2.  The submission deadline for the Create with Code Live personal project has been extended to 8 p.m. today, so I think I'll keep working on it a little longer; in particular I really want to add sound (and maybe some particle effects).  Technically, of course, nothing's stopping me from continuing to work on the game even after the Create with Code Live submission deadline is over, and there are some more things I wanted to do with it—besides cleaning up the scenery a bit, I'd downloaded a lot of assets for extra scenery like benches, streetlights, dumpsters, and so on that I'd planned to add to the map (as well as some random crates and cardboard boxes and other things the player could knock over and kick around just for fun)—but I've got to stop sometime, so after I get the sound (and maybe particle effects) put in I'll call it done... at least for this alpha version.  (It's not really an alpha, actually, I guess, just a... proof of concept?  But I wasn't sure what else to call it.)

UPDATE 2: Okay, done; I added sound, and while I didn't get around to adding particle effects, I did give the trap a flash of light.  I really should have given sound a higher priority and done it earlier, actually; it has a significant effect on gameplay since it makes it easier to tell whether there's a gremlin nearby, as well as whether the gremlin is currently chasing you.  Anyway, this will be the final version of this game, at least until I get around to making a full version—but that (if I ever get it done) will really be an entirely different (and much better) game, just based on the same concept.

Install instructions

The game is all in a single zipfile—just unzip it into a directory of your choice and run the Gremlin Hunter application.  Just download the latest version (alpha 03), unless you really feel the need to play an earlier, worse version for some reason.
